The Phoenix Economy explores the social and economic ramifications of the Covid 19 pandemic, arguing that it may considerably reshape the global economy. Salmon suggests a future of greater geopolitical tension exacerbated by climate change, future pandemics and increased inequality. Growing uncertainty may reduce long-term thinking but it will also increase risk taking, something we’ve seen in the past and why periods of stress and mortality often precede periods of growth and innovation. And Salmon sees a new era of appreciation for life fostering greater generosity. In discussion with Charles Kenny, Salmon will discuss the implications, both negative and positive, of this “new not normal.”
