2024 marks a crucially important year for the world’s health, shaped by an economic and social polycrisis and recovery from COVID-19. Collective efforts, development assistance, and global solidarity are more important than ever.

The UK once enjoyed a strong reputation in global health, but this has been undermined by a steady decline in foreign aid, political upheavals, and unclear and inconsistent health and development commitments.

Building on a new report from the Center for Global Development (CGD), this event will feature a discussion and debate that reviews global trends in health spending and development assistance, and lays out recommendations for future UK government strategy, policy and role. The event will bring together researchers and thought leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities for UK global health leadership and policy, and asks, in an election year, what are the possibilities and priorities?
