China and the Gates Foundation have announced a new partnership to fight the country’s tuberculosis epidemic. Among the innovations: drug resistance tests that identify multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) in a few hours, compared to six or more weeks for a standard test. CGD’s Rachel Nugent hopes that the partnership will lessen the global threat of MDR-TB, for which no country is adequately prepared.
