OF NOTE THIS WEEK

U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator Eric Goosby told Voice of America that the economic crisis will be a factor in all HIV/AIDS funding decisions over the next few years. Though the economy appeared healthy when Congress reauthorized PEPFAR in 2008, Goosby said, expanding it and other AIDS-related programs now must be carefully weighed.

PEPFAR won't expand as fast as it did when it was launched in 2004, Goosby predicted. "The trajectory for PEPFAR expansion in the first five years is not going to be reflected for the immediate future. But it does not reflect a change in commitment or emphasis," he stated.

Also of note this week, we have added a link at the bottom of our newsletter to our Recommendations and Policy Impact tool, where you can easily monitor and track HIV/AIDS Monitor impacts. See here for more information on the purpose of this tool and to leave helpful feedback and comments.
