OF NOTE THIS WEEK
The Global Fund this week kicked off the Born HIV Free campaign, with a goal of providing access to treatment for every mother so that by 2015 no child will be born with HIV. Michel Kazatchkine, president of the Fund, told the BBC: "This campaign is intended to encourage people to sign up in support of the Global Fund, and to show their leaders that there is strong public support to continue and increase funding for its mission."
Also this week, CGD's Mead Over argues in a landmark CGD essay that with AIDS funding flat and five people newly infected for every two who begin treatment, only dramatically improved and transparently measured prevention efforts can stem the epidemic.
Lastly, please join us for the HIV/AIDS Monitor event, Taking Prevention to Scale: Lessons from India’s Mukta Project where Project Director Darshana Vyas will discuss the successes of scaling up a prevention program, as well as the challenges of transitioning program implementation and management to the government and communities. The event will be held from 10:30-12pm on Tuesday May 25th at the offices of the Center for Global Development. See here for more information on the event and here to RSVP.
