Sir Colin Lucas is the current Warden of Rhodes House and Secretary to the Rhodes Trust at the University of Oxford (UK). He was previously the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford (1997-2005). He served as Master of Oxford's Balliol College from 1994 to 2001. Between 1990 and 1994 he was Professor of History and then Dean of the Division of the Social Sciences at the University of Chicago. Sir Colin has also held visiting faculty positions at the University of Lyon-II, Indiana University, and Cornell University. He is a specialist in the history of eighteenth-century France, principally the French Revolution.
He has authored and edited several books on French history and numerous essays and articles. Sir Lucas holds honorary doctorates from the University of Lyon-II in France, the University of Sheffield, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Western Australia. He is a Fellow of All Souls College, and an Honorary Fellow of Lincoln College and of Balliol College. He serves as a trustee of the Mellon Foundation and of the Rhodes Trust.
