The Guardian Weekly quotes CGD vice president and senior fellow Ruth Levine in an article featuring advanced market commitments for vaccines to developing countries.
From the article:
"Ruth Levine of the US thinktank Centre for Global Development, which first proposed the AMC idea, adds that incentives must be large enough to get manufacturers interested, or they will not produce vaccines fast enough, if at all – and save more lives. 'Both hard-headed economists and soft-hearted humanitarians I think would agree that you want one or more manufacturers to be comfortable with the deal and make life-saving vaccines for poor children even at the risk of not saving every possible penny. That’s the trade-off.'"
