Policy Outreach Associate

The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-profit think tank, seeks a policy outreach associate to join the Communications and Policy Outreach team in our Washington DC headquarters. The position is offered for six months full-time.

Job Summary:

The successful applicant will support CGD's policy engagement with Congress, the Executive Branch, NGOs, and others in the development policymaking community to increase the policy impact of the Center's research. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, energetic, and highly motivated to learn from and inform CGD’s outreach and policy program. Excellent written and oral communication skills are crucial to success in this position, as is knowledge of the US political process. S/he will be a quick study with a passion for the policy process and will display the skills and desire necessary to advance within a short time to a level of significant independent responsibility.  Candidates with two to five years of work experience are encouraged to apply.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

As a member of the Communications and Policy Outreach team, the policy outreach associate will have challenging and diverse responsibilities, including:

  • Supporting CGD outreach with Congress and the Executive Branch and identifying and building opportunities for influencing policy dialogues and outcomes.
  • Informing CGD researchers of USG priorities and positions.
  • Helping to foster and maintain relationships with NGOs, embassies, and international organizations to educate them about CGD work; and inform CGD researchers of key audience priorities and positions.
  • Performing as a credible, articulate and effective spokesperson for CGD, in person and in writing.
  • Drafting and designing outreach materials, including print and web content.
  • Working as part of the communications team on design, creation, and promotion of creative policy-focused content
  • Providing occasional support for general communications and events efforts.

 

Qualifications:

  • Hill, Executive Branch, and/or US-policy oriented NGO experience strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of US policy process required.
  • Individuals possessing both knowledge of economic development and a strong communications background are preferred.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills, including the ability to represent CGD to a broad audience and create a positive and lasting impression.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.

The six-month position has a flexible start date (December – mid-January). Salary is commensurate with experience. Benefits will be provided.
