OF NOTE THIS WEEK
After a recent conference on Making Smart Investments to Increase Impact and Efficiency and Save More Lives, PEPFAR has released its latest information on smart investments for women, children and families. Focusing specifically on PEPFAR and PMTCT, PEPFAR notes that some countries like Botswana have virtually eliminated mother-to-child transmission and globally, the number of children born with HIV dropped from an estimated 500,000 in 2001 to 370,000 in 2009. PEPFAR calls PMTCT a "smart investment for PEPFAR--high-impact and cost-effective". You can learn more about PEPFAR PMTCT programs here. In addition, see here to read up on PEPFAR's strategy to develop more efficient and impactful programs and to provide feedback to the PEPFAR team developing this work in advance of the forthcoming comprehensive strategic plan.
