International Trachoma Initiative

Founded in 1998 by the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation and Pfizer Inc., with the goal to eliminate blinding trachoma worldwide, the International Trachoma Initiative (ITI) set out to help governments of endemic countries, like Morocco, initiate national trachoma programs based on the SAFE strategy. Through this partnership, Pfizer donated over $72 million worth of Zithromax. Since 1997, the incidence of trachoma in Morocco has been cut by more than 90% among children aged 10.
