Peru

On June 9, 2008 the MCC and Peru signed a two-year, $35.6 million threshold program to help the government of Peru improve its performance on MCC's Control of Corruption and Immunization Rate indicators. The program seeks to increase immunization rates of rural children against diseases such as measles, diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus in eight targeted regions and assist Peru’s Ministry of Health in strengthening information and vaccination management systems. The program will also help Peru combat corruption by working with the judicial branch, law enforcement, the ombudsman and controller’s offices and civil society organizations to improve internal controls, as well as analyze and simplify administrative processes to reduce opportunities for corruption.The program is due to conclude in July 2011. Country Eligibility

In FY2010 Peru moved into the upper middle income country (UMIC) category, making it ineligible to participate in the MCC selection process in FY2010 and FY2011.  In FY2009, Peru scored above the median on four of six Ruling Justly indicators, two of five Investing in People indicators, and five of six Economic Freedom indicators.
