Sanofi-Pasteur donated the Hib vaccine for the initial five-year study in The Gambia through a partnership between the vaccine manufacturer and the prime minister of The Gambia. The vaccine was administered from 1997 until 2002 through the national immunization program. As a result of the program, the number of children developing Hib meningitis dropped tenfold.
