OF NOTE THIS WEEK
The Global Fund announced last week that a panel of experts has recommended almost 50 percent of Round 9 proposals to the Fund's Board for funding totaling $2.21 billion, down from $2.75 billion in grants approved last year. The latest call for proposals drew requests worth $4.8 billion from 95 countries, and almost half of this year's recommended funding is slated to fight HIV and AIDS. The Global Fund Board will meet in November in Ethiopia to assess the panel's recommendations and make funding decisions.
Also of interest this week, The Daily Monitor from Uganda reports on a recent study from HIV/AIDS Monitor country research partners from the University of Makerere. This important research, combined with similar research from our country partners in Mozambique and Zambia, contributed to our most recent synthesis report on global HIV/AIDS funding and gender.
