Maria Jose Talayero Schettino is a policy fellow at the Center for Global Development, where she focuses on lead exposure and policies to address its multiple impacts on communities worldwide. Before joining CGD, she was a postdoctoral associate at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, collaborating with the National Institute of Standards and Technology on the Hurricane Maria Mortality Project. Previously, she helped coordinate the Intergovernmental Network on Chemicals and Waste for Latin America and the Caribbean at the United Nations Environment Programme, supporting regional efforts to strengthen governance and prevent chemical exposures. Maria holds an MD, a master’s in Toxicology, and a doctorate in Environmental Health from the George Washington University.
