Marking one year into his tenure as USAID administrator and the 50th anniversary of USAID, Administrator Raj Shah will give a speech today on The Modern Development Enterprise. CGD is honored to sponsor the event.A lot has happened in the last year – the Haitian earthquake, flooding in Pakistan, the release of the President’s Policy Directive (PPD) on Global Development, and the Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review (QDDR). But, a lot remains to be done. Here are a few items I’d like to hear from Administrator Shah:
- Outstanding nominations will be announced in next few weeks. Getting a full team in place is critical.
- A budget for FY2012 will be sent to Congress in February that fully articulates the objectives for U.S. foreign assistance and the strategies for achieving those objectives.
- An evaluation plan that will focus on outcomes, AND a plan for phasing out or fixing those programs or approaches that aren’t effective.
You can watch the speech live here. Stay tuned for my post-speech analysis and I look forward to your comments.
