Introduction
In this session organized by Global Forest Watch (GFW) at the 2014 Global Landscapes Forum in Lima, CGD Senior Fellow Frances Seymour moderates a discussion on “Technologies and innovations to better understand changes in land use.” Frances begins the session by outlining three drivers of innovation from the supply side, and three from the demand side. Her remarks are followed by presentations on the latest developments in remote sensing of forest loss and forest carbon stock by Greg Asner, Matt Hansen, and Sassan Saatchi. Crystal Davis then provides an update on GFW, followed by remarks from Congresswoman Lourdes Lopez of Mexico. A Q&A session follows the presentations.
