Immigration is one of the most contentious politics issues in the US. Some American workers feel they have lost out to immigrant competition and to globalized supply chains. But CGD research on US immigration from Mexico, Haiti, India, and other countries uses data to show that the impact of migrant workers on a destination economy are a policy decision, and do not have inherently negative outcomes. In fact, there can huge benefits to both destination and origin countries, and migrants themselves.
CGD’s work on US immigration is part of our program on Migration, Displacement, and Humanitarian Policy.
