This event is hosted by the World Bank Gender Group and features CGD expert Megan O'Donnell.
This year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign comes at a time like no other, as countries are working hard to respond to COVID 19 and are implementing restrictions and lockdown measures to prevent the spreading of the virus. Responding to COVID 19 presents an opportunity to also respond to the pandemic of gender-based violence with 1 in 3 women experiencing physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. The COVID 19 pandemic and its policy response has led to an overall increase in experiences of violence for women and girls across the globe. With the support of World Bank financing governments in low- and middle-income settings have taken the opportunity to address these co-occurring pandemics.
This event will explore GBV evidence during COVID-19 and highlight COVID-19 response operations with the hope that governments, World Bank staff and other stakeholders understand and take hold off this unique opportunity. To further facilitate operations, address GBV as part of the COVID 19 response, the event will also introduce two practice tip sheets on integrating GBV in health and livelihood/economic strengthening operations.
