Pete Baker is the deputy director of the global health policy programme at the Center for Global Development, and the deputy director of the international Decision Support Initiative (iDSI). He is a public health specialist doctor and Fellow of the UK’s Faculty of Public Health.
He is an expert in health financing, and his principal interest is in the evidence, methods, criteria, and institutions needed for prioritisation of domestic health expenditure and global health aid. He is also working on improving the financing of supply chains, health taxes, reform of the global health architecture and how aid can better support domestic health financing. He has advised Africa CDC, the World Bank, FCDO/DFID, MSF, and a range of countries across Africa and Asia on setting health priorities.
For five years he was a member of the UK’s NICE Technical Appraisal Committee A, which advises the NHS on resource allocation decisions. His medical degree is from the University of Manchester and he holds an MSc in Health Policy Planning and Finance from LSE and LSHTM.
