Sam Hughes

Sam Hughes is a research associate within CGD’s European Development Policy and Leadership Programme. Here he undertakes research and outreach across UK development policy and on aid effectiveness, including work on CGD’s QuODA and FID indicators and the UK’s Integrated Review.

Hughes joined CGD following two years at an international development consultancy, IMC Worldwide. At IMC, he worked as an economist and researcher on various Donor-funded development projects. These included assignments for DFID, FCO, CDB, ADB and the World Bank to appraise infrastructure investments and to support the development of new UK aid initiatives, such as the Global Trade Programme.

Hughes holds an MSc in Economic Development and Policy Analysis from the University of Nottingham, where he investigated the relationship between trade tariffs and economic growth for his thesis.
