Across several recent administrations, leaders of key US development agencies—in partnership with Congress—have spearheaded efforts to enhance the effectiveness of US foreign assistance and development finance. From an expanded partner base and greater use of innovative tools to better integration of data and evidence to inform decision-making, the next president will have an opportunity to build on these bipartisan reforms and work alongside lawmakers on Capitol Hill to make assistance programs more strategic and impactful.
Join the Center for Global Development and the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network (MFAN) for an event reflecting on past progress and looking ahead to opportunities for future reform. Former USAID Administrators Gayle Smith (2015-2017) and Mark Green (2017-2020) will keynote. Their remarks will be followed by a panel discussion featuring former US officials, who will discuss priorities for maximizing the US government’s foreign aid toolkit.
