With COP31 set to begin soon in Antalya, Türkiye, this event will examine the role of the Bretton Woods institutions in addressing climate challenges. Climate-vulnerable countries increasingly seek help from the World Bank to invest in adaptation, resilience, and mitigation. The bank’s climate-related finance reached roughly $48 billion in FY26, nearly double its level five years ago. The International Monetary Fund, meanwhile, has expanded its work on the fiscal and financial effects of climate change with the creation of the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST).
Are their efforts working? For the first time, both institutions’ independent evaluation arms will jointly present evidence on what has delivered and what hasn’t. Join us for a presentation from the IMF’s Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) and the World Bank’s Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) on their findings and recommendations, followed by a discussion with experts inside and outside these institutions on what the evidence suggests for the future of IMF and World Bank climate support.
This event is produced in collaboration with Evidence for Climate Action.
