Your contribution makes it possible for the Center’s researchers to devise practical, evidence-based solutions for today’s most pressing development challenges.

Malnutrition remains a critical global health issue, affecting millions of children worldwide. Despite its importance, nutrition financing faces significant challenges, including fragmentation and inadequate prioritization. CGD is at the forefront of efforts to address these issues and improve global nutrition outcomes.

Building off past expertise in priority-setting in health and the global health aid architecture, CGD researchers aim to develop feasible strategies for prioritizing nutrition interventions—both internationally in global health funds as well as in the delivery of health benefit packages to achieve universal health coverage. In this work we examine the landscape of diverse global health funds and channels to identify gaps and successes in prioritizing nutrition. We also review the vertical, horizontal, and diagonal approaches to health service delivery, examining the application of and integration of highly cost-effective nutrition interventions.

Our ultimate goal is to provide clear, actionable policy recommendations for donors and countries on implementing diagonal approaches that effectively integrate nutrition into broader health systems. This work will inform crucial debates on reshaping global health governance architecture and ensuring sustainable health financing in an era of multiple crises.
