Armed Conflict in Uganda: Civilian Experiences and Policy Implications

The discussion on "Armed Conflict in Uganda: Civilian Experiences and Policy Implications" at The Brookings Institution covered on-going research with civilians affected by conflict in Uganda, examining the situation in the north and in Karamoja. The panel discussed the links among protection, human security and livelihoods, as well as the lasting effects of war violence on youth in regard to social, psychological, economic, and health indicators.

Speakers included Jeannie Annan, PhD, Counseling Psychologist, Program for Survivors of Torture, NYU School of Medicine; Christopher Blattman, PhD, MPA/ID, Assistant Professor of Political Science & Economics, Yale University & Visiting Fellow, Center for Global Development; Dyan Mazurana, PhD, Research Director for Gender, Youth, and Community, Feinstein International Center, Tufts University; and Elizabeth Stites, MA, MALD, Senior Researcher for Conflict and Livelihoods, Feinstein International Center, Tufts University. The session was moderated by Peter Walker, Director, Feinstein International Center, Tufts University.
