Introduction by Victoria Fan, CGD Senior Fellow
As we mark the 20th anniversary of the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)—and the world continues to grapple with multiple global crises and mounting fiscal pressures—the unfinished HIV/AIDS agenda requires programmatic, financial, and political leadership. This is precisely why sustainability is a key pillar in PEPFAR’s new five-year strategy.
Looking ahead, PEPFAR must address how to continue prioritizing and translating sustainability into effective programming and operational practice (while there are still HIV/AIDS programmatic goals to meet by 2030); strengthen and advance national capacity to support sustainability in the HIV/AIDS response; and leverage an HIV-specific program to support global health security, national public health institutes, and more.
Join us for an important conversation with Ambassador Dr. John N. Nkengasong, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Special Representative for Global Health Diplomacy. The event will be moderated by CGD Director of Global Health Policy and Senior Policy Fellow Javier Guzman, followed by audience Q&A.
