Akhil Bansal is a Policy Fellow on the global health team, focusing on market shaping for global health innovation. He is a practicing internal medicine doctor in the UK National Health Service (NHS) and has previously worked as a junior doctor in Australia. Additionally, Akhil has served as a global health researcher and philanthropic advisor with organizations such as Schmidt Futures, Open Philanthropy, The Life You Can Save, and Ambitious Impact.
Akhil has a particular interest in infectious diseases in low- and middle-income countries, with expertise in antimicrobial resistance. He has also conducted research on reducing violence against women and girls, emphasizing cost-effective preventative interventions. His work has been featured in numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Recently, Akhil won the University of Chicago Market Shaping Accelerator Innovation Challenge. He will continue his efforts on market shaping for neonatal sepsis diagnostics at the Centre for Global Development.
Akhil is a passionate advocate for the global health nonprofit sector. He founded High Impact Medicine and serves on the boards of directors for Ambitious Impact, Fortify Health, and the Oxygen Access Project.
In addition to his Doctor of Medicine (full academic scholar), Akhil holds a Bachelor of Advanced Science from the University of Sydney.
