Support for gender equality has increased globally, especially in cities. Why is this? And what does this subnational variation tell us about the drivers of social change?

Join this brownbag seminar to hear new findings from Dr. Alice Evans, on how cities can catalyse social change. Drawing on qualitative research in urban and rural Cambodia and Zambia, Dr. Evans finds that cities: disrupt the male breadwinner model; increase exposure to women as workers and leaders; and provide more avenues to collectively contest established practices. This all reinforces a snowballing process of social change. A key insight is that social change accelerates when we see that others are changing.
