CGD was honored to host former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin for an event on "The African Development Bank: Recommendations from the High Level Panel." Mr. Martin was the co-chair of a 13-member Independent High Level Panel on the African Development Bank (AfDB), which was established as an independent advisory body to provide recommendations on the AfDB’s strategic vision and on the operational strategies needed in the medium to long term. Martin discussed the report and its recommendations--including the need for a premier continental development bank in Africa.
Discussants included Papa Madiaw Ndiaye, Chief Executive Officer, Advanced Finance & Investment Group and Erin Thornton, Policy Director, ONE. Steve Radelet, Senior Fellow, Center for Global Development, moderated the discussion.
