Effective primary school teachers are foundational to quality education and to building the human capital that drives long-term economic growth and shared prosperity. The preparation teachers receive before entering the classroom helps determine the quality of students education and is essential to making teaching, and all other investments in education, more effective. This new publication examines how initial teacher education is delivered worldwide and offers five guiding principles to help decision makers strengthen teacher preparation, drawing on detailed experiences from 11 countries and evidence from many more.
