The links between climate change, conflict, and fragility are becoming increasingly clear. Many of the countries facing the greatest climate risks are also grappling with conflict, displacement, and chronic humanitarian need. Yet there are growing concerns that international financing is not reaching these countries at the scale required.
Against a backdrop of ongoing conflicts, rising humanitarian needs, and shrinking aid budgets, these questions are taking on new urgency. How should governments, donors, and international institutions set priorities in an era of constrained resources? And are current financing systems equipped to support countries facing multiple, overlapping challenges?
This fireside discussion with the International Rescue Committee's David Miliband and the Center for Global Development’s Ian Mitchell will consider the implications of new research on the climate vulnerability of fragile and conflict affects states relative to other country groups and whether climate finance is reaching those most in need. With welcome remarks from CGD's Mikaela Gavas, the conversation will consider what these findings mean for international funding priorities in today's geopolitical landscape.
